Gallery - Emrys Williams

I have also created a 4 image gallery in flash in case anyone wants to use it while designing the website.  Unfortunately I don't think there is a way to upload the gallery onto the blog, so instead I will upload some screenshots of the gallery.

I have re-created the slideshow in flash, though this time I was recording it using CamStudio2 (I also used Windows Movie Maker for editing) so I would have a video to show here.

Task 3 - Review Our Website (Julie Jolly)

• Our website is fairly simple in its design.
• It is informative but not overloaded with too much information.
• This is a good point as in my initial research in other university website I found some of them to be too lengthy. Individual Elements

Individual Elements

My contributions for this website involved taking images to be used for the site. I had to use my digital camera as well as borrowing the college camera. I used Photoshop to edit and touch up the images for the slide show. The slide show was done by Emrys. I spent time in designing a banner. I decided after seeing the design of the current college website I would prefer to do a panorama image of the college for the banner. My work involved Photo merging of the collective images and editing using various Photoshop skills. This is documented in a video and is available to view on our Group blog. I have not however documented all of the other design that I had worked on in a video form since the techniques applied were similar. One of my final version which was preferred by other group members is below.

Below is the video showing the designing of the banner using Photoshop. I also used  Cam Studio first to shoot the video. I  then used Windows Movie Maker to  create a speeded up version of the video. I also have put music onto this video using  Windows Movie Maker.

Group Elements

I helped in group work by playing a role in the video which has been done by Timothy Holden. I decided to use my own thoughts of what I felt could benefit the target audience in particular (girls) to do this course.

I was assigned responsibility at a very late stage of the web development of coding and designing the Requirements and Qualifications page for the website.

Things I would do differently in the future would be to have designed the Requirements and Qualifications page with more content.  As there was  little time I was unable to add more design features to the page.

Final Video -- Tim Holden

I have now finished putting together the video. In the making of the video, i have used many different pieces of software in order to put the example shots on the video, such as photoshop editing techniques, notepad for writing HTML and J creator for the Java coding. The results can be seen in the video below:



I made the video using open source software from the Ubuntu software centre. The program is called OpenShot Video Editor, and works much like Movie Maker. There are a few occasions where it flickers or bugs, but i think that that is due more to my hardware than the software. I used this instead of Movie Maker in order to showcase the value of open source software, since i believe that it will soon become the preferred   type of software to be used, since i forsee Linux based Oses becomeing more popular than Windows.
I used another Open Source product called Record My Desktop in order to record myself making the movie.




I used a few effects in the video. I tilted the angle of the shot, in order to make it a bit more interesting. (I had meant to angle the camera on shooting, like the sensodine adverts, (see below), but i had enough trouble getting the interviewees to do what i wanted in the very small time slot that was available to worry about that.)

Today I have given aron a sample of a banner image which he can place on web page.
I am working on getting more sample done as my digital camera is not of good quality. I will be looking to borrow a camera which would allow for the 3D images to be shot better.

Editing the video

I am editing the video in three stages. The first stage will be cutting down the raw footage I have into small chunks of usable fottage. In stage two, these will be combined with screen capture footage of programs being used, and in the third stage I will add effects, such as fade ins/outs, subtitles and maybe even light music if I have the time.
